This year my daughter is in grade 5. What this means is that this is her final year in elementary school and next year she will be headed to junior high school. Oh man, am I ever feeling old now! Well in grade 5 they do a lot of different things to help ease the transition into junior high a little more easily for the kids. One of the things they do is teach a course called D.A.R.E. D.A.R.E stands for Drug Awareness and Recreation Education. In this course an actual police officer comes in to teach the classes. They discuss all the pitfalls of getting into drugs.

They teach the kids all about the different types of drugs that they can get access to and also about all the side effects and trouble they can get into if they do indeed take these drugs. They also discuss what it entails when a person needs to enter a drug treatment center to get clean. They explain how by taking a drug treatment program will help you, if your not careful you could very easily relapse.

I think this is a wonderful course to teach the children as we all have heard on the news or with personal life stories, kids in the junior high level can get tempted just as much as anyone else. My daughter is pretty smart about things like this already, but I am actually looking forward to her hearing all about drugs and their influences from an actual police officer.

Although I live very far away from the United States, today we are receiving the tale end of hurricane Ike. We have gotten a little bit of rain, but have had massive wind gusts. At one point I really had to wonder if the wind was going to carry my youngest son away. Oh well, I guess we could have it a whole lot worse like a lot of people in the United States have gotten it. Thankfully none of our possessions or belongings have been blown away or destroyed. So I guess I can live with a little wind, just as long as it doesn’t blow the roof off my home. I really hope this hurricane is on it’s way out and does the least amount of damage that it can do before it blows itself out.

Last weekend because it was pouring all weekend we were not able to go on our final camping trip. So to make up for this disappointment my husband took the family out to a craft fair and then out to supper. I just love going to craft fairs. Not only do I get to see other people’s works of art, but I am usually always able to walk away with some new ideas about things I would like to make as well. I also get to discover what new types of promotional items are out on the market now to get the word out about my small home crafting business. Although I don’t normally purchase a whole lot at these fairs I normally do have a pretty good time and walk away from them with tons of ideas. Well I’m happy to report that I was able to do just that this time around. There were a couple of different projects which I had the opportunity to look at that I’m going to try to make to sell through my business.

Well as I mentioned in an earlier post, I was planning to empty out the kid’s dressers. Well I did it. Between my son and my daughter I came out of their rooms with an entire garbage bag. The only bad thing about this is now I have to go out and purchase them more clothes. I thought they were both set for school because their dressers were full, but after taking out all the clothes that are too small the dressers aren’t full anymore. My son only has THREE pairs of pants now that fit him. Well seriously that’s not enough. So next week when my husband gets paid we are going to have to make a little trip. My daughter did a little better than my son and I think all I need to do is purchase her some t-shirts. Man does spending money never end??

As you all know, I still have two children living at home. Just before they went back to school last week my husband and I took them clothes shopping for school. Both of them grew another size from last year. So later on today I am going to go through their dresser drawers and get rid of all the clothes that are too small for them now. Right now with all these clothes plus the ones that we just bought them, there dressers are very disorganized. Hopefully I’ll be able to get all this done before they arrive home from school so I won’t have to listen to “but mom, it still fits!”. Why won’t kids get rid of clothes that don’t fit any longer??

Well now that the weekend is finally here, we need to make some changes in our weekend plans. Originally we had planned to take the kids on one more camping weekend and then take them to the Atlantic Balloon Fiesta that is going on in a nearby town. But having listening to the radio all day, our plans have drastically changed.

If the weatherman is to be trusted, then we are in for one heck of a storm over the weekend. It is being reported that we are going to get the tail end of the hurricane “Hannah”. They are reporting heavy rains and excessive winds. So it looks like we will be staying put and making sure that everything in our home is ready for Hannah.

As you all know, I am a stay at home mom. But to help out with the household finances, I try to do a little working from home as well. So when I have a little free time I browse the Internet looking for work at home jobs. I’ve come across a lot of sites that offer work from home jobs. But the best job sites that I have stumbled across sites like the bostonjobsite where all you need to do is upload your Boston resumes and search for locations and industries that match your desires. I always look for telecommunication jobs because I want to stay at home with the kids as long as I can. I do pretty good working from home, but am always on the lookout for something more. So I continue to browse.

Even though I haven’t been able to drop a lot of Entrecards from this site lately, there is still a group of people who faithfully drop on my site.
