I have heard a lot lately about the US economy and how bad it is right now and I can tell you all that the Canadian economy is not faring much better. I can remember last year at this time and the economy didn’t seem as messed up as it is today. All the necessities in life are on the rise, but the minimum wage is still quite low. I honestly don’t know how families of five and six people are making out. We doing good to buy groceries, pay for gas and keep the kids clothed and in school. To have a little extra left over for some family fun is normally just a pipe dream for us. But, I’m trying to make our home life a little better. I have made an appointment with two different insurance companies to get alife insurance quote and I plan on going with the cheapest. Hopefully I can save a little money this way and we can start putting a little fun back into our lives instead of just barely getting by.

My husband is just too funny but he does drive me crazy at times. This past summer we went out and purchased a brand new pop up camper trailer. So of course I’m thinking that we are good for a camper for at least a couple of seasons. I guess not! Last night my husband was searching the Internet for used campers (not pop ups) and he came across an ad that had a bus for sale. Now he’s thinking that he may like to purchase a bus and make it over to a camper. I’m not really keen on this idea because if you use a bus as a camper and want to go anywhere while your camping you have to take the bus with you. I would rather get a regular camper where you can park it and leave it or better yet, keep the one we have! Oh well I’ll let him keep looking but if he makes any noises to buy I may then need to step in.

Last night friends of my father in law and his bride to be held a shower for him and her. Now when you hear about showers you normally think about a bunch of women getting together and giving the bride all sorts of presents for her upcoming wedding. Well in the town where they will be living, they hold what is known as community showers. The entire community (men, women and children) are all invited to attend the event. My husband and I were asked to go but because it was being held at 7:00 pm in a town an hours drive away from us we were unable to attend. My husband and his father were a little disappointed at this. But when work calls what can you do? I hope that they had a great night and got lots great presents. I just wish we could have been there.

Well I think my father in law is finally done giving me stuff. Because he is downsizing from a four bedroom house to a two bedroom mini home, most of his bigger pieces of furniture would not fit in the new place. So he decided to give most of the big furniture to my husband and myself. We ended up with a dresser, two bookshelves, two cabinets, a bed, and a china cabinet. So now with all this furniture in my house, I have to start doing some rearranging to find room for it all. Although we live in a four bedroom mobile home, we don’t have a whole lot of room and with all this new furniture we have even less. I have to sort through all this mess because if I don’t I won’t have any place to put a Christmas tree when the season finally arrives.

I find that it’s quite amusing to see how much Canada and the US are alike and different. Since I started blogging I have made a lot of blogging buddies that come from the US. I read their blogs on a daily basis as I like to see what is going on in the world around me. Sometimes I am amazed at the huge differences in our countries. Take NC health insurance for example. People in NC are paying a lot more for a lot less coverage than I get. And of course I don’t think this is right at all. I really don’t care where you live, everyone needs health insurance. So when I’m reading about issues such as this, I am quite thankful that I do reside in Canada.

My daughter came home from school the other day moaning and groaning about having a pimple. That’s right she has ONE pimple and thinks it’s the end of the world. Keep in mind that this child is only 10 so I think she has a couple years to go before she has to worry about pimples, acne attacks and taking weight loss pills. I swear that she’s 10 going on 20 with the way she reacts sometimes. Even though it is a pimple, I told her it was a mosquito bite and that it will go away on it’s own. This made her quite happy and I haven’t heard about the pimple since. I’m just wondering what major catastorphy is going to happen next with her.

Yesterday my daughter came home from school with a permission slip to go skating with her class as well as the dates and times that they will be going. After I took a look at the slip she then politely informed me that because she is in grade 5, I won’t need to go with her anymore. She did give me permission to attend her last skate of the year. I mainly go to all the kid’s skating sessions just to watch their progress. But I guess that won’t be happening this year. She is growing up so fast and I guess she is getting a little too old to have mom hanging around quite so much. This did make me a little sad, but I will follow her wishes and only go to the rink with her during the last skate of the year.

Well you may not be aware of this but my husband is currently looking for a new job. He has been employed at the place he works now for over 10 years and is not getting seriously tired of all the stuff that’s been happening around there lately. He has had a couple of mechanic job offers, but to take either of these jobs he is going to need to take a cut in pay. Well we really can’t afford that. So he is thinking that he may like to get a truck driving job.

A few years ago he went to truck driving school but has never done anything with it. Now he thinks this may be a job he would like. It pays really good, and he would be by himself most of the time which is something he prefers. I guess we will have to wait and see if this is the direction he chooses to go in. If it is I think I’m going to have a couple of upset little kiddies on my hands.

I realize that this is probably a topic that some of you guys really don’t want to think about right now. But…it’s coming. Over the weekend I was talking to one of my co-workers and the topic of Christmas came up. I was quite surprised when she informed me that she was almost finished with her Christmas shopping. The reason for my surprise? Well, possibly because I haven’t even begun to start shopping yet. I always tell myself every year that I’m going to get a jump start on all my Christmas shopping for the following year, but it never seems to work out that way. So here I am again with the Christmas season looming ahead and not a present bought and not even any ideas what to purchase the children this year. Man, I really wish I was a little more like this woman. Then I wouldn’t have to worry about this coming Christmas any more.

Last night when my husband got home from work he informed me that he has to go away in October for a week on another training course. This course will be held out of the province so he will be away the entire week. He is going to learn how to fix and inspect an ac compressor. Previous to this his company has not been renting out these types of units so he didn’t need to be trained on them. But they are expecting a large shipment of these units to arrive in November so they want him to be ready to work on them when they arrive. This is a great learning opportunity for him, but I absolutely hate it when he goes away on course and so do the kids. Oh well, that’s part of the job I guess.
