As you all know my favorite pass time is making and creating crafts. I do a lot of different craft work during the run of a week and I have two little people who enjoy watching me and then trying the crafts themselves. I discovered last night that the best crafter of the two is my son, not my daughter. He likes doing every thing I do and he has the patience to sit down and do them. My daughter does not. I think part of her problem stems from the fact that she is left handed so it is more difficult for me to teach her.
A couple of Christmases ago she received a rug hooking kit as a Christmas present. After a few futile tries at this craft she got mad and packed up the box and gave it to me to finish for her. Well that didn’t happen. lol Last night my son seen the box and asked if he could try it. I only had to show him twice and then he was off to the races.
He loves making crafts, but is a little “embarrassed” doing it. He thinks making crafts is a “girl” thing. So last night he asked me if rug hooking was a sport. I told him it was and then he was quite happy to continue on with his newest hobby.
So another weekend has come and gone with no camping getting done. This weekend we were unable to go camping as my husband was sick all week so I couldn’t expect him to head out to the campsite in his condition. Don’t worry it’s nothing serious. Just the crappy cold and flue. But you know yourselves that once you get hit with these illnesses (especially both at the same time), you don’t feel like doing much of anything.
But since it’s just the first of the season, I don’t feel too bad about not going and hopefully soon we will be able to get our first trip in. My husband is feeling a bit better today but still not 100% so I guess it’s good that we didn’t travel too far from home.
I am amazed how fast time flies when your not paying attention. My oldest son moved out a year ago on the 21st of this month. I can’t believe it’s been a year already and that he has lasted a year on his own. He moved quite far away, so we don’t get the opportunity to see him very often. We do communicate through phone calls and e-mails so I know he is doing OK. But it’s still hard. I think his moving out and so far away has been the hardest on the two younger kids that are still at home. When he first moved out they were happy for him and excited that he was going on an adventure. But now since it’s been so long they really miss him and want him to come home. My youngest son has even said that he would happily give Josh his old room back if he came home. But…he likes where he is at so I’m sure he will be there for many more years to come. It’s just too bad we can’t seem him as much as we would like to.
This morning after I dropped the kids off at the bus stop I decided I needed to go get some gas. Now you have to understand that since I don’t work outside of the home anymore, I don’t have to stop at the pumps very often. I don’t do a whole lot of driving and mainly use my car for stuff with the kids, going to the doctor’s or going down the road for some groceries. So it’s been quite a while since I have had to visit the gas station. Well..you can just imagine my utter SHOCK when I seen the gas prices. The price of gas had gone up $0.20 a liter since the last time I filled up. Although I still wouldn’t spend that much on gas myself, I do have to wonder how people are affording to drive back and forth to work everyday while paying these prices. In our house we are quite lucky as I don’t spend a whole lot on gas and my husband’s work pays for his. But…I really have to wonder how everyone else pays for it. And it’s only suppose to get worse before the summer has ended.
So the weekend didn’t quite turn out the way I had hoped it would. We were suppose to go camping on Saturday, but by the time my husband got home from work, it was pouring rain. So we decided to not go camping on Saturday and decided to try to go on Sunday. It was suppose to be sunny and warm on Sunday. But guess what?! It was pouring rain on Sunday as well. So we didn’t end up going at all. The kids were disappointed, but not as bad as I thought they would be. The good news is, is that it was only the first week so during the summer we will still have plenty of opportunities to go camping. Who knows, if the weather is nice next weekend, we may be able to go for one night.
So…how was your weekend??
So starting tomorrow I won’t be around much for the next few days. My husband and I are taking the kids on our first camping trip of the season (weather permitting). We have the trailer already packed. All the clothes are packed and all I need to do is pack the coolers tomorrow morning. We have to wait until tomorrow to go as my husband has to work first thing in the morning. But when he gets home at noon all we need to do is jump in the car and go. The kids are quite excited about this little adventure and I must say that I’m starting to get that way myself.
So I guess I’ll see you all the first of next week and I hope you have a fun and great weekend.
I am not much of a cake eater. Mainly because I detest the sweet icing. But if you buy me a black forest cake, I will eat it!! Every year for my birthday my husband always buys me Black Forest Cake and because NO ONE in my household except me likes it, I end up eating the entire thing myself. This is why I usually only get one a year. Any more and I would probably get sick of it.
So this year for my birthday I told my husband not to buy one because no one else in the house will eat it so the kids don’t get any birthday cake. But do you think he would listen to me?? Nope! Friday night he came home with a cake for me (all for me lol) and a little regular cake for the kids. What a sweetie. So you can guess what I’ve been eating all weekend. I have one piece left and then it will be gone for another year. But the good thing was was that we all were happy. I was able to get my cake and eat it all and the kids got the kind of cake they like. So it was happiness all around my house this weekend.
Sorry folks I won’t be around much today. Today I am taking a me day. Today is my *40th* birthday and my gift to myself is to do nothing. So I plan on just relaxing all day until the kids come home. When my husband gets home, we will be all going out to supper. So far it’s been a pretty good birthday. The two younger kids each made me a homemade card and gave me a present. My daughter gave me an extra special present. She taught herself how to play the “Happy Birthday” song on her violin. So first thing this morning she gave me this gift. It was probably the best gift I will receive this year. The only thing that would make my day complete would be to hear from my oldest son.
So see ya all tomorrow and I hope you all have a great day!

I’m starting to feel a little old today and it’s not because of my age, but because of my oldest son’s age. Today he turns 19. I can’t believe how fast time flies. It seems like only yesterday that I was in A LOT of pain. lol. When I think back over the last 19 years a lot of fond memories run through my head. When I first gave birth my son, it was just him and I against the world. Then we he was five we met my husband. So it was the three of us. We have had a lot of fun over the years as well as a little bit of heartache as well. But 19 years later here we are.
So I would like to take this opportunity to wish him a very happy 19th birthday and I hope that he is enjoying his special day.
